Types of UCEAP Programs
- Immersion: Take host university courses with local and international students
- UC Study Centers: Courses are taught according to a UC curriculum, often with a particular theme or academic focus.
- Multi-City Programs: Study in multiple locations, visiting local establishments including social, government, and non-government organizations
- Language & Culture/ Language Study Programs: Instruction focused on language acquisition and culture study
- Internships Abroad: A full-time internship or required internship built into the curriculum
- Research Abroad: Full-time research or required research built into the curriculum
- Themed and Major-Specific: Programs designed for specific disciplines

Researching UCEAP Course Options
Before choosing a UCEAP program, it’s important to research the course offerings at your prospective host institution to understand what’s available and how it aligns with your academic goals. Here’s how to get started:
- Start with the UCEAP Academics Page
- Each UCEAP program has an Academics page with key information on:
- Fields of study (e.g., Humanities, Social Sciences, Sciences)
- Number of courses and minimum credit load
- Research, internship, or fieldwork opportunities
- Language of instruction
- The academic culture at the host institution

- Review the UCEAP Course Catalog
- The UCEAP Course Catalog lists the courses UC students have taken on the program. This gives a general idea of the types of courses offered, though availability may vary each term.
- Explore the Host Institution’s Course Catalog
- Many UCEAP programs give you access to the host institution’s full course catalog. Look for:
- Specific courses available during your term abroad
- Course related to your major/minor
- Any course prerequisites or requirements
