Before choosing a UCEAP program, it’s important to research the course offerings at your prospective host institution to understand what’s available and how it aligns with your academic goals. Here’s how to get started:

  1. Start with the UCEAP Academics Page
    • Each UCEAP program has an Academics page with key information on:
      • Fields of study (e.g., Humanities, Social Sciences, Sciences)
      • Number of courses and minimum credit load
      • Research, internship, or fieldwork opportunities
      • Language of instruction
      • The academic culture at the host institution
  2. Review the UCEAP Course Catalog
    • The UCEAP Course Catalog lists the courses UC students have taken on the program. This gives a general idea of the types of courses offered, though availability may vary each term.
  3. Explore the Host Institution’s Course Catalog
    • Many UCEAP programs give you access to the host institution’s full course catalog. Look for:
      • Specific courses available during your term abroad
      • Course related to your major/minor
      • Any course prerequisites or requirements
  4. Check Proposed Courses or Syllabi
    • If the program offers a list of set courses, review the descriptions and syllabi to understand to see what will be available during the program.
  5. Consult UCEAP’s Credit Transfer Resources
    • The Campus Credit Abroad resource shows the types of credit UC students have earned through the program (e.g., major, minor, GE, elective credits).
  6. Review Our Academic Planning Webpage
    • Review the Academic Planning page on the Global Learning website for information on:
      • Courses and grades
      • Fulfilling major/minor requirements, and
      • Fulfilling GE requirements

Researching will help you determine if a UCEAP program fits your academic needs and provides the courses you want.
